Who We Are

Charlbury Bowls Club is a friendly, community-based club established in 1934 with a two-lane rink at the cricket ground in Dyers Hill. After two ground moves, we settled at our current site in 1996. We have embarked on a progressive period with challenging participation targets and aspirations for our club. We provide leisure and competition for all ages at all levels of ability, and already hold several non-sporting community events at our premises as the club has continually striven to be part of the community.

We welcome members of all abilities as an inclusive club and in May 2021 will support wheelchair bowlers and others with disabilities to fully participate in our sport.

Facilities

The Club has a generously sized clubhouse which is surrounded by its own grounds, hedgerows and trees. It has a well-stocked bar and kitchen that provides catering for matches. The excellent Oxbrew Bowls Green is now regarded as one of the best surfaces around. Two short-mat bowls mats provide competitive opportunities for our teams and individuals from October to March. We have a large car park, and a quiet, secluded location. We are currently considering how to further improve the facilities at the site to ensure a thriving club to mid-century and beyond.

Members

Our club is open to anyone who wants to play or support bowls and everyone is welcome to try out our green by bowling a few bowls down. Our facilities were designed, and have been further adapted, to support disabled players and visitors. We welcome youth members with one of our juniors, seventeen-year old Alannah Ford, part of a winning three-member team in the 2017 Oxfordshire County under-25 triples competition. Another member, Shane Cooper, was under-25 county champion, having participated in the national championships at Leamington Spa in summer 2017.
